A Little Housekeeping (Giveaway Winners)

27 August 2015 by Melissa

My laptop was in the shop getting a cracked LCD screen fixed for a good chunk of August, during which time I neglected to announce the winners of the last two giveaways.

Dan won the copy of Bum Rap (which he is still waiting for)

and

Beth won the copy of The Last Summer at Chelsea Beach.

Happy Reading.

@TWLadyGrey: If voting didn’t work, Roe v. Wade would still be standing. Republicans elected a Republican President and Republican Senate when three Supreme Court seats were on the line, and they achieved their objective. Voting works. We just didn’t do it.

@VP: Millions of women in America will go to bed tonight without access to the health care and reproductive health care they had this morning. Without access to the same health care or reproductive health care their mothers and grandmothers had for 50 years.

@MaryLTrump: For everybody saying it's unacceptable to change the number of Supreme Court justices, Mitch McConnel did that for almost a year. When he refused to allow RBG's seat to be filled, he changed the number of justices on the Supreme Court from 9 to 8.

The clock ticks. The countertop herb garden’s pump grinds: it needs more water. The owner of the house grunts slightly as she rises from the couch, which creaks in response. The faucet gushes into life and there is a soft click as the woman fills a plastic pitcher. The rubber cap of the herb garden […]

If that seems a bit far-fetched, consider: “Ring Around the Rosie” defines the symptoms of the Plague, and “This Old Man” warns of a  is about a pedophile. “Here We Go ‘Round the Mulberry Bush,” on the other hand,  refers to how female prisoners once got exercise.

Hot Toddy, Cold Ground

There was barely any moon, just enough to let the gravestones show as reverse silhouettes – pieces cut out from the surrounding dark. Pieces that seemed to exist in a world where the light never reached.
