A Little Housekeeping (Giveaway Winners)

27 August 2015 by Melissa

My laptop was in the shop getting a cracked LCD screen fixed for a good chunk of August, during which time I neglected to announce the winners of the last two giveaways.

Dan won the copy of Bum Rap (which he is still waiting for)

and

Beth won the copy of The Last Summer at Chelsea Beach.

Happy Reading.

@JoyceWhiteVance: When I left my gov't office after 25 years, I took a piece of door art a colleague made, designating me the office's "arson & bombs chick" & a photo of me in a helicopter. Didn't think to take the nuclear codes.

@DonLew87: Do you know any diabetics? You should make sure they see this video of the Senators who voted against capping insulin at $35/month. It fell short by 3 votes. https://t.co/CxKjbSJsMJ

Finding Antares (for Nichelle Nichols)

Finding Antares (for Nichelle Nichols)

Every so often, there is a mortal being inducted into the siren’s sisterhood. Our linear, finite lifetimes necessitate that this happens only when such a person has finished her last song. When that happens, the sirens come to guide her past their mother-heart to a place where time has no meaning.

If that seems a bit far-fetched, consider: “Ring Around the Rosie” defines the symptoms of the Plague, and “This Old Man” warns of a  is about a pedophile. “Here We Go ‘Round the Mulberry Bush,” on the other hand,  refers to how female prisoners once got exercise.
