Review: Millionaire Memorabilia
One of my favorite parts of Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood, the part that they didn’t focus enough on in the movie (though I do understand the decision not to) was The BOOK. You know, the scrapbook kept in a box. The one that held between its covers, not just pictures, but newspaper clippings, small trinkets, and big memories. They called it YaYa-rabilia, but whether you refer to it that way, or by the more usual word, memorabilia, matters little. The import is in the keeping of things that trigger memories.
This is why, when I go looking for gift ideas for Fuzzy, I start at websites like Millionaire Memorabilia. Neither of us are particular autograph fans, but there are times when a frame from a favorite film, or the window card from a favorite play is just what we want. When we hang such a thing on our wall, we are hanging, not just a reminder of a piece of entertainment, but also a memory. “I saw this and it changed me,” “We saw this on our first date,” or anything else.
Millionaire Memorabilia specializes in fairly mainstream stuff, but that’s fine - there’s a niche for everything. It’s sort of the online equivalent of that store at the end of the pier in San Francisco, where they feature boxes of alphabetized head shots and movie stills, all from vintage actors, except not every item here is vintage, as witnessed by the Harry Potter image above.
Most of what they offer is framed photo collages, window cards, or posters, with autographs from key members of the cast or production. A JAWS collection, for example, is signed by Robert Shaw, Roy Scheider, and Richard Dreyfuss, as well as Stephen Spielberg and Peter Benchley. Alternately, a serious fan of prestidigitation might like the signed photo-collage of Harry Houdini ($3,995).
The site is arranged in loose categories, based on the type of memorabilia (celebrity, sports, etc), and alphabetically by name and title within those categories. Searching through their offerings is an entertaining but time consuming task, so it’s best if you have a general idea of what you want before you shop.
All of their items come with proof of authenticity, and their contact information includes a toll-free number prominently displayed so you can call if you have questions or need assistance. The site has a button assuring safe, secure data transmission so when it comes to credit card info, you needn’t be any more concerned than one ever is when shopping online.
Fascinating to browse, great place to go when searching for a present for the person who already has “everything.” Recommended.
