There was a widely bruited-about statistic reported last week, stating that 1 in 4 Americans did not read a single book last year. Clearly, we don’t fall into that category, but . . . how many of our friends do? Do you have friends/family who read as much as you do? Or are you the only person you know who has a serious reading habit?
I am fortunate in that I come from a family of readers, and married into a family of readers as well. Some of us have overlapping tastes, some of us don’t, but no matter where we are, there’s something interesting to read, and probably a cozy corner in which to do so.
I’m also pretty selective about my friends – most of them are readers as well. It’s hard for me to comprehend a life without reading for pleasure.

Hi Melissa. Saw your link on Michele’s and followed it home. Lucky me!
When I saw this story last week, I felt a chill descend to the base of my spine. The society that walks away from its literacy is a society that is on the verge of a frightening descent.
Books ignited my fire to become a writer. They continue to inspire me to advance the state of my own art, to build a greater legacy than I could have ever imagined when I first started to study the craft in university.
I can’t wait to read more of your work.
I think it’s great that your family members & friends are avid readers. Although mine don’t read as much as I do, but I’m glad there’s internet and bookblogs around! :D
Happy reading!
See, this is where I hang my head in ignorant shame. I THOUGHT you had mentioned you were launching this site a while back. But I couldn’t find the reference in my e-mail, and my blog/comment archives aren’t as easily searchable as my e-mail.
So if you told me that you had launched this site and it didn’t register in my feeble, overworked brain, I’m so sorry.
I really need to get more sleep so my brain doesn’t turn into an even bigger sieve than it is.
I’ve got a blogging-business question for you. Are you around later this week for about, oh, 10 minutes? Need to pick your blogger’s brain.
Thx!
